Origins

A 2016 UofT travel restriction for HHUC imposed a distance limit of 100 km from campus for students in a private car. All scuba diving was curtailed with the exception of Humber Bay and Gulliver’s Lake. In 2019, the Warden gave permission for an HHUC sub-committee to investigate alternatives for open water diving. The sub-committee recommended the creation of a legally and financially independent entity, with separate membership, to run scuba trips. Thus, Blue North Scuba Club was formed in 2021 by alumni members, maintaining a strong resemblance to HHUC’s ethical and safety policies, to allow alternate arrangements for the continuance of the tradition and fellowship of safe open water diving in a separate club environment.
