Value of Membership

​What do I get for my $20 membership in Blue North Scuba Club?

Note:

  • Blue North is an independent, federally incorporated, not-for-profit organization whose revenue comes from Membership dues of $20 from 60-80 members. Dives are run on a break-even basis.

Benefits of Membership / Blue North Expenses:

  • Benefit: Access to a well managed scuba club with a stable financial base, certified Instructors and Divemasters, and a dedicated and knowledgeable Board of Directors.
    Expenses: financial accounting software, credit card fees, eTransfer fees, banking fees, federal incorporation fee.

  • Benefit: HHUC Training Members are able to do their certification weekend with their own class, buddies, instructors and training staff in Tobermory, and everyone has the benefit of OUC Liability Insurance coverage.
    Expenses: $550 OUC Training Club fee

  • Benefit: Communications of news and policies through an easy to navigate, up-to-date website, and an informative, timely newsletter.
    Expenses: website fees, servers and personalized URL bluenorthscuba.ca

  • Benefit: Pre-booking charter dive boats to provide interesting dive sites for the summer.
    Expenses: Blue North funds are used to reserve boats early in January, before they are booked by other dive clubs — and long before summer dive fees have been collected from Blue North divers to pay for the boats.

  • Benefit: Merchandise: Good will gesture of free Blue North logo decals for the dive leadership team, newly certified divers, and dive trip participants.
    Expenses: approx $1 per decal

  • Benefit: Interesting dive sites, researched and tested by our Board and leadership team.
    Expenses: No expense for volunteering, researching and sharing this information.

  • Benefit: Volunteer Board of Directors.
    Expenses: No expense for their free volunteer services on your behalf.

  • Benefit: Valuable OUC input about dive safety and the diving industry with two OUC Board Members on the Blue North Board, (and two other OUC Board Members who are members of Blue North). 
    Expenses: No expense for their free volunteer services on your behalf.
