What do I get for my $20 membership in Blue North Scuba Club?
Blue North is an independent, federally incorporated, not-for-profit scuba club.
Our modest $20 annual membership from 60–80 members is our primary revenue stream that supports the infrastructure that makes our diving program possible. We aim to run our dives on a break-even basis.
Your Membership provides:
A well-run, reliable club
You’re part of a well-organized, financially stable dive club led by a knowledgeable volunteer Board, supported by certified Instructors and Divemasters. Our committed Blue North Board of Directors works behind the scenes to organize, plan, and manage the club.
Your dues cover: federal incorporation costs, banking and transaction fees, such as credit card and eTransfer fees.
Expanded diving opportunities
Our dive community offers a wide range of diving experiences beyond the 100 km travel restriction from campus, covered by Ontario Underwater Council (OUC) liability insurance. Members can take advantage of both shore diving and charter boat excursions at some of Ontario’s premier dive destinations, providing access to diverse underwater environments and memorable adventures.
Your dues cover: the annual OUC Club fee of $150.
Training opportunities for our dive community
Beyond the 100 km travel restriction from campus, our club offers a range of training opportunities:
– Training Members can complete their certification weekend with their own instructors, buddies and training team, ensuring a supportive and familiar learning community.
– Diving Members have access to advanced training courses at suitably challenging dive locations throughout Ontario, allowing them to build skills and confidence in open water conditions.
Your dues cover: the annual OUC Training Fee of $400.
Priority access to Ontario charter dive boats
We secure popular boats early in the new year so our members get access to great summer dive sites before the season fills up.
Your dues cover: early reservation deposits, well before individual diver payments are collected.
Access to international adventure trips
Beyond Ontario, Blue North Scuba Club offers members the opportunity to explore some of the world’s most renowned dive destinations—from the crystal-clear waters of the Maldives to the legendary Great Blue Hole in Belize, as well as a variety of Caribbean and Indo-Pacific locations.
Volunteer-driven: Our dedicated trip leader generously contributes her time and energy—at no cost to members—to research and organize exceptional travel experiences. From identifying outstanding dive sites to arranging memorable dining and sightseeing opportunities, her efforts ensure each trip is both seamless and unforgettable. As members often say: “Rebecca, we will follow you to the ends of the earth.”
Curated dive experiences from dedicated volunteer leadership
Divers benefit from dive sites that are researched, explored, and shared by our experienced volunteer leadership team.
Divemasters benefit from the advertising, registration services, administrative support and recordkeeping provided by the volunteer efforts of the Blue North Board, as well as a small finanicial token of gratitude.
Your dues cover: A small reimbursement towards DM expenses, such as air fills.
Safety Priority
Blue North places a high importance on diver safety, and demonstrates this by bringing safety equipment, such as first aid kit, oxygen and AED, on our dives.
Your dues cover: purchase of safety equipment, such as the Blue North Oxygen Analyzer, for use by all members on club dives.
Connection to provincial diving leadership expertise
Blue North benefits from direct insight into diver safety and industry developments through strong ties with the Ontario Underwater Council. OUC’s president and membership director serve on the Blue North Board. Two other OUC directors are Blue North members.
Volunteer-driven: Members benefit from direct access to the expertise and guidance of experienced OUC leaders at no additional cost.
Timely communications
You can stay informed through an up-to-date, easy-to-navigate website and regular newsletters describing our dive schedules, news, safety tips and policies.
Your dues cover: website hosting, servers and domain name for bluenorthscuba.ca.
Social connections and events
Blue North hosts a joint summer BBQ for members.
Your dues cover: our $200 portion of the cost of hosting the BBQ.
Club identity and community spirit

Your dues cover: this small merchandise cost.
