What to expect underwater:
Read the article on the Welland Scuba Park from Pelham Today.
Type of dive: Shore diving, maximum depth for this dive is 35 ft. The old Welland Canal was closed in 1972. In 2005, the city designated the former canal a passive waterway. Niagara Divers Association developed a plan to locate a scuba park in one section of the waterway between the Lincoln Street Bridge to the north and the old Train bridge to the south. There are training platforms, wrecks, a sunken submarine, and an interesting spot for diving under the old swing bridge where fish congregate around the pilings.
Suitable for: Divers of all levels, including newly certified divers and experienced divers looking for a fun outing, or maybe to try out some new gear in a safe location.
Requirements to dive:
– shore dive fee by eTransfer (note: the dive is sold out)
– Annual Membership in Blue North Scuba Club – https://bluenorthscuba.ca/join/ – if you have not already joined in 2025.
– OUC Release signed for 2025 https://bluenorthscuba.ca/release/ – if you have not already done so, selecting both Blue North Scuba Club and HHUC as your clubs.

Plan your trip
Divers are expected to bring everything they need for a day of diving, including:
– water
– sunscreen
– your own lunch (note: there is a Tim’s and McDonald’s nearby, but you may lose your parking spot)
– dive gear.
Scuba Gear:
– Bring all your own scuba gear, including two tanks.
– The water is a typical Ontario temperature for mid summer, so expect to need a “double 7 mm” wetsuit with hood, gloves and boots.
