Course Outline
Instructor/Divemaster: Martin Bonert, NAUI Instructor and Steve Meggeson, NAUI Divemaster
Prerequisites: Open Water Scuba Certification.

NAUI Course Description:
This is a continuing education certification course for certified divers. It will introduce divers to a variety of diving activities in an open water setting under the supervision of a NAUI Instructor to increase confidence and to explore new scuba skills.
The course will have an eLearning component as well as one or two online tutorials. On-site discussions will include orientation, briefings, debriefings, and an evaluation based on academic subject matter. Students will prepare and present dive plans for each location and dive purpose. There will be a minimum of six open-water dives, including three separate dives for navigation, night diving and deep diving, plus three additional dives based on the available options to be determined by the instructor. Students will also demonstrate basic scuba skills including: buddy awareness, buoyancy control, navigation, the use of log books, etc.
Course Activities will include:
- Navigation
- Night diving or low-visibility diving
- Deep diving
Plus at least 3 of the following at the discretion of the Instructor:
- Search and recovery
- Boat diving
- Light salvage
- Hunting and collecting
- Exploration and underwater mapping
- Wreck diving
- Observation and data collecting
- Diving in surf or currents
- Shore diving
- Diving for photos and videos
- Use of dive computers
- Other advanced diver skills at the discretion of the Instructor

Blue North’s minimum requirements
- Age requirement: 18 years of age.
- Certification requirement: Open Water Scuba Diver or above, certified by a recognized agency.
- Membership Requirement, Part 1: Divers have filled in the annual BN Scuba Profile & Waiver.
- Membership Requirement, Part 2: Divers have paid annual fees: (a) Blue North Scuba Club membership fee $20. (b) Ontario Underwater Council (OUC) membership fee $50.
- Membership Requirement, Part 3: Divers will adhere to Blue North dive policies.
- Club Course fee: Paid in advance for this course – Amount TBD – Pay by eTransfer to bluenorthscuba@gmail.com
- OUC Release (annual) has been signed and valid at least 24 hr. before the event.
Note: Newly certified divers from the June Certification are already members of Blue North Scuba Club.
Plan your trip
Divers are expected to bring everything they need for diving, including:
– water
– sunscreen, hat
– all your own dive gear
– probably two tanks
– probably lunch
Scuba Gear:
– Bring all your own scuba gear.
– Your Instructor will let you know if you need two tanks.
– The water is a typical Ontario temperature for mid summer, so expect to need a “double 7 mm” wetsuit with hood, gloves and boots.
– TBD – your Instructor will provide a list of additional gear, such as dive lights, compass, etc. that you will need.

Need a Ride / Give a Ride: Watch for a WhatsApp to arrange rides, and talk to your Instructor.
If you are driving, please offer a ride to your fellow divers.
Accommodation:
Ask the Instructor if there is a preferred location where most of the group are staying.
You are responsible for booking your own accommodation. Check the internet for motels, cottages, B&B, camping, etc. to find something that’s right for you. The Instructor will set up a WhatsApp so you can communicate with other divers about transportation and accommodation connections.
