On Costa Rica and Club diving … What an amazing adventure this Costa Rica trip has been. Thanks to Rebecca, our superb leader of these trips for over 20 years. Dave T. has said it all so well, and Kathryn, and others too — how very appreciative we all are. And a big shout out to those individuals who have created the Blue North Scuba Club which has made this trip possible: Bob Belcher, Kathryn Cullen and Dave Bragg. Thanks to Mike O’Meara of Squba Holidays. Also loud applause for the volunteer scuba instructors and leaders who for over 64 years have introduced so many to the wonders of the underwater world. I feel especially grateful to have been on this trip which marks 40 years since Karen and Barry Green handed me my NAUI Open Water Certification card in Bonaire, after 13 weeks of classroom lessons 7-9 pm and pool sessions 9-11pm. Thanks to Rebecca who has served as President of HHUC and with Karen, Bob, Kathryn and others who have been the backbone of this organization throughout the years. Since those first open water dives in Bonaire and seeing the wonders beneath the sea, it has widened – and deepened – my world. Now 200+ dives later I can say these have been among the greatest experiences of my life, and under the auspices of the Club, I have seen shipwrecks, and the aquatic life of Ontario, Bonaire, Belize, Roatan, Curacao, Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, Turks & Caicos, Utila and St. Lucia. While I missed out on Cozumel, Saba, the Galapagos and Wakatobi, I certainly enjoyed the 2016 trip to the Philippines, especially seeing the colourful soft corals, all the turtles and being in the water with the very large and gentle whale sharks. My non-Club sanctioned destinations have included the Florida Keys, the East Coast of Florida, Turks & Caicos (again), and Mauritius off the coast of Africa. I still enjoy diving, snorkelling, going along for the ride on dive boats, and seeing the sights. I hope to be able to travel and hang with this crew for as long as we can keep on tripping the light fantastic.

Here’s to more adventures – Here we come!
